MONDAY OF THE FOURTH WEEK OF EASTER

Well, I guess I was reallly on a merry-go-round last week. I was confused, tired, and out of breath BUT I seem to have caught up on my rest since I got into bed around 7pm on Sunday and got out at 10:30am this morning. It’s good I got up since I had the 11:00am Mass. Since then, I’ve been sitting here at my desk in the office trying to “catch up”. I’ve made at least 23 phone calls and written about 15 emails. I will take a break at 2:50 to go up and put the Blessed Sacrament out for adoration and then come down and work again till around 5. Fr. Jim is on vacation; although I’m not sure he went away but may be hiding in his suite. So I have two Masses today and as I have the 5:30pm Mass; I think aftewards I’ll get some food and have a quiet evening at home.

Yesterdays Mass to celebrate Msgr. Beattie’s 50th anniversary was great. He spoke at the Mass and in his normal funny manner was able to make all of us happy for his years of service and friendship. There were lots of St. Camillus people there and at the reception later, I had a chance to speak with many of them. There was even a student from Good Counsel days who stopped and spoke to me – Steve Delucca. There were about twenty priests and Bishop Holley as well as a number of deacons. There had also been a Mass on Saturday night and another thiry priests were at that. Jim has had a wonderful effect on many people’s lives and especially priests. He will be retiring in June and will spend three days a week as spiritual director at Mt. St. Mary’s Seminary. He’ll be good at that.

After the reception, I met Pat Berry and Jose (oh dear, I forget his last name) who had come to sightsee in Washington. We met at the Shrine and then went to dinner. They left around midnight to go back to Chicago. They were lucky to miss most of the rain and saw a lot of DC.

I have decided not to wait any longer to write and send out my Christmas Missive for 2009. I have begun work in earnest and hope to get it printed before June 1st. We’ll see.
