Yes, it was Chez Francois that we went to the other night. It was just lovely and delicious and very relaxing. It’s in a beautiful setting and the service was excellent.
Today was a slow day for me. I did call and get an earlier appointment to see a doctor about my knee. It has gotten worse and is difficult whenever I move. I went to bed early last night just so that I didn’t have to move around.
I had the 8:00am Mass and stood throughout all of it because it is hard to get up and down. One of the parishioners was kind and after Mass came in and gave me a cane. He said, “We had two of them in the car, so take this and see if it helps”. It does. Having something to lean on helps my left leg to stay straight.
After Mass, I met with a lady who does our parish newsletter and she wanted to hear about the trip on the Queen Mary2. If she decides to write something, I’ll put it on line.
Then I drove over to St. Camillus. I can drive because it is only my left leg that is hurting. I went over to preside at the funeral of Mildred Miller. She and her husband, Harry were in the parish when I was the assistant and they were just great people. They had 7 children and were involved in so much of the parish life.
One son, John was a part of the group of young men that Mr. Kunze got together every December and cut down a huge tree for the Church. He and the boys took care of finding it, cutting it down and putting it up in the baptistry area. It was usually about 25 feet tall and then the the boys helped the teen club to decorate it with ornaments that parishioners had made. They also put strings of lights and when we lit it during the childrens’ Christmas Eve Mass, it was always a big hit.
John, eventually married my cousin, Carole Apfelbeck, a parishioners and so Mildred and I got to be related.
I was honored to preside at the service. Fr. Mike, the pastor, preached and was very kind to me -as he always is when I come back to the parish – and he helped me up and down the steps of the altar. He also gave a wonderful homily and a little commentary about Mildred at the end of Mass. The family had planned the Mass and the music and readings were great.
I went out to the cemetery and with the help of my cane, got around fine. The family was having a luncheon but I needed to get home. I got in and took a three hour nap. I went down to supper with the pastor and now I am just relaxing and going to sleep.
My doctor appointment is at 10:15am and I have paperwork to do in the morning. Please keep Mildred, her family, and the parish of St. Camillus in your prayers. Even though she has been very ill lately, she was an integral part of the parish and her family for 90 years.
You may need an MRI as a follow up to the doctor’s visit. Keep us posted.
sorry I couldn’t make the big extravaganza. It sounds like it was great for you. You’ve had the opportunity to share many persons lives when they have been vulnerable and that is a true gift from God. I’m not sure what happened to your knee. I have difficulty keeping up with Facebook, email and what Paddy shot at is something I need a reminder to read. I hope it is just a strain and not arthritis, which can be extremely paingul and limiting. You need to pay attention to your body. Not doing so eventually backfires and you end up worse off than when you aggressively pay attention to the treatment plan. At least, that has been my experience.
Not a lot new here. I will right later to everyone to up date people on some major changes that have been occuring with my health later. I spent this last 3 days tearig down the heating system in my house. the only good thing is that there is a beautiful iceberg parked just outside my window. It reminds me that thistto shall pass! Good luck with you knee. Doesn’t sound like you’ll be visiting up here anytime soon. glad your anniversary was such an uplifting experience for you. Peace out
